About

Josh's Background

Josh bought his first camera in 2010 and has traveled ever since from his Clarksville, Tennessee residence across the midwestern United States to cover the best drivers, series, and tracks that dirt track racing has to offer. His photos have been enjoyed across the country through his publication in numerous magazines, websites, and newspapers.

Born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky around a wealth of various motorsports talent and disciplines; Josh found a love for racing at an early age. Owensboro was hometown to several NASCAR drivers such as 3-Time Cup Series Champion Darrell Waltrip, his brother and 2-Time Daytona 500 Winner Michael Waltrip, Jeremy Mayfield, 2000 NASCAR Busch Series Champion Jeff Green, and his brothers David and Mark, and the Hayden family who's son, Nicky Hayden, would claim the 2006 MotoGP World Championship.

With the original paved oval of Kentucky Motor Speedway and the famed dirt oval of Windy Hollow Speedway on each side of town, Josh would frequent weekly racing as a teen and would develop a second family at the racing events. Inspired by the photography work of area photographers such as Richard Cunningham, Josh would pick up a camera and take to the races to document the races for a few friends in 2009. With a drive to capture better images, and a true enjoyment and passion for photography, Josh James Artwork was started in 2010 as he was offered and held a track photographer position at both tracks he had grown up at. In the years that followed, Josh developed partnerships including a Series Photographer position with the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series that would allow him to follow his passion of Motorsports Photography and travel the country.

Josh would also find employment in the Motorsports Industry working for the AFCO Performance Group out of Boonville, Indiana building Shock Absorbers for all disciplines of racing, and learning the engineering behind the machines he enjoyed so much, and eventually he managed the Shock Department of the company until his departure in September 2019 when he relocated to Clarksville, Tennessee with his wife; Jenna.

Josh serves as a proud contributing photographer for DirtOnDirt.com, the World Racing Group, DIRTcar Racing and the World of Outlaws, USAC Racing, and the new Dirt Empire Magazine. Josh brings his eye to the capture of motorsports and the men and women behind the machines and can be found doing so whenever and wherever the roar of engines can be heard.
